Your guide to getting outside in Marin County

In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks.

About this blog:

The inspiration for this blog/website came from the encouragement of many friends and family who had seen and liked the Facebook posts I would share about our family outings and hikes in Marin County (and beyond!) I decided to provide some of the same information from those posts – with even more details – in a blog format.

What makes this outdoor blog unique is its emphasis on “family-friendly” Marin County outings & hikes – both popular & less traveled – from the perspective of someone who has grown up in Marin. This place forever has my heart! These blog posts can be found in the section “Hikes in Marin”.

I’ve also included a section called “Outside Marin”, which features family-friendly outings & adventures to locations outside of, but easily reached, from Marin.

Hopefully this blog will inspire other families to disconnect from social media while connecting with each other – unplug from screens & video games and tune into nature and the physical world all around us!

So come outside with us – take a look at my blog for our latest family adventures, or browse the website for an outing / hike that suits you and your family best!

Here we are in one of my favorite places outside of Marin…Yosemite!

A little background about me:

I’m an adventure mom of 4 thrill seeking kids and married to another big kid!

I was born and grew up in Marin County and still currently live in Marin County with my family.

As a child, I loved to explore the nearby creeks, forests and hills in Marinwood where I grew up.

When I had kids of my own, I made nature exploration a top priority – partly out of love and nostalgia for the place I grew up in, but also largely to provide my kids with the many proven health benefits – both physical and mental health benefits – of being out in nature. As soon as the kids could toddle, we would set out on shorter easy hikes. We may not have gotten far or to the end at first, but I like to think it’s more about the journey, not the destination.

Now we try to set out on local family outings at least once a week – sometimes new hikes, sometimes old favorites. Since the kids are getting older, they have the endurance for longer hikes.

Being a photographer, I always carry my big DSLR camera with me. I try to capture the magnificence of what we see, and bring it all home to share with people who may not be able explore or have never hiked the same trails.

I am obsessed with being active in nature and am wildly curious about the world around me, and chances are, right now I’m planning our next big adventure!
